Mythic Moocher
Photograph by Phil Schermeister
In the ancient lore of some Native American peoples, Coyote is a trickstera mythic, amoral creature who does both good and evil for humans. But these days to most park visitors, coyotes might appear to be lazier, spending most of their time lying in fields, pouncing on mice and pocket gophers, and loitering near roads and campsites trolling for handouts.
