Guarding the Temple

Framed by the arch of one of a series of temples at Hatra, a member of the 101st Airborne Division serves as part of the site's 24-hour guard. One of only two UNESCO World Heritage sites in Iraq, Hatra's massive walls and temples are still standing after more than 2,000 years. Before the arrival of the U.S. Army, several reliefs within the temple complex were damaged.
