Man on a Mission
Photograph by Nicolas Reynard
Early in his career Sydney Possuelo believed the best way to help Brazil's indigenous tribes was to contact them, then provide education, medicine, and other benefits of modern life. Instead, he says, the Indians were decimated by disease and by the sudden collapse of their traditional culture. "I saw the havoc we were wreaking," says Possuelo. "That's why we have to leave them isolated."
