Pocatello: Idaho at Its Best
Idaho | By Emily S.

If you want to visit a place surrounded by grand mountains, meandering streams, and whistling wind, come to Pocatello. Pocatello is a small city in southeastern Idaho, which can give some very unexpected surprises.

In the year 2002, the Olympics are being hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our city is only two hours north of the competitive Winter Games. Quite a treat, don't you think? If you prefer the wilderness, Yellowstone National Park is only two hours north of the Gate City. Yellowstone has many steaming geysers, bubbling mudpots, and beautiful canyon views. My favorite geyser is Old Faithful, directly in front of Old Faithful Lodge.

Pocatello is a very safe community. I moved from a large city back in the East, which had much more crime than Pocatello does. It is a good city to raise children in.

Pocatello has many parks scattered around the city. It even has a brand-new skate park and aquatic center. It's a fun way to cool off in the summer time. If fishing is a pastime you enjoy, Pocatello offers many secluded streams to explore. Wildlife is also abundant, so you don't have to travel far to see a moose or a bear.

Pocatello is an exciting community nestled in Idaho. Everybody is like family. I just wouldn't feel comfortable calling any other place home.
