Sculptors begin with big blocks of clear ice. They use tools to carve the ice into beautiful, sparkling statues. This huge sculpture is a model of a famous temple in Cambodia called Angkor Wat.

Kids and other visitors to the festival are invited to build snowmen of their own. Together, these snowmen form a huge welcoming committee. More than two million people visit the festival each year.

These giant snow dinosaurs dwarf the visitors standing nearby. In recent years, sculptors have built models of ancient buildings, statues of famous baseball players, and even a giant-sized Harry Potter.
