Scavenger Hunt
Background: Travel back in time to the 1850s. You are a slave, and your only hope for freedom is to travel the Underground Railroad. It was a long and dangerous journey. Escaped slaves had many hard decisions to make.

Directions: Print out this page (or get a copy from your teacher). Then take the journey to freedom on the Underground Railroad. Correct the mistakes in each sentence below.

1. Harriet Tubman was called Noah because she guided so many people to freedom.




2. Escaped slaves followed the East Star to freedom.




3. On the Underground Railroad, a wreath in front of a house meant the house was safe.




4. William Still wrote down the stories of many Native Americans.




5. Pennsylvania was a slave state.




6. In free states, slaves could never be returned to their masters.




7. The Rocky Mountains were a hard part of the journey north.
